Fictional Lover: Holiday season 2010

After many months of absence, I thought it would be nice to introduce one of my favorite fictional lovers to you. And what is a better time to enjoy our favorite fictional lovers than the Christmas holiday season? It was hard to choose who to pick from the list of lovers I have at the blog, but after long consideration I decided that I would pick Nate Archibald from Gossip Girl. I have read only couple of the books, so I will be talking about Nate Archibald in the television series (I just want to make this clear because I know there might be some changes in the characterization).

Interview with Nate Archibald

So Nate, to begin with, can you tell something about yourself?
Sure thing. My full name is Nathaniel Van der Bilt Archibald, but I am called Nate by many. My mother Anne Archibald is a member of the Vanderbilt family (significant international family, very prestigious and rich). My father, Harold Archibald, was successful businessman, but he hit his downfall and got imprisoned and I rather not talk about that more.

You have dated both Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen, right? What is your current relationship with them?
You are right, I do have history with both of them. I had sex with Serena while I was dating Blair and I think that is what started this big mess between us, our friends and others. I had been dating Blair for a long time, "since kindergarten" many said, but Serena somehow drew me to her. After Blair got to know about thing that happened between me and Serena we still continued our relationship but eventually Blair thought that I was not over Serena and she ended the relationship. For one summer I pretended to be in a relationship with Serena, and after a mess with several women I started to go out with Blair once again but that did not last for long. I also went out with Serena, but that did not turn out well either.
We are on so called "friendly" terms right now though and at least I am over Blair. (note by Milka: I do not know what has happened on the latest 3 or 4 episodes, so I do not know about the latest plot swifts).

Who would you call your best friend?
I have been very close with Chuck Bass for years. Recently I have also became close with Dan Humphrey. Also Blair and Serena are my friends who I have known for years.

You eventually end up to Columbia university. Was that the university you dreamed about?
To be honest, it wasn't. I wanted to attend university in West, for example in University of Southern California. My father wanted me to go to Darthmouth University, one of the Ivy League schools.

But wouldn't attending a school like Darthmouth fit perfectly to your life and situation?
It would. But I would love to break free from the planned life my parents have made for me: attending a Ivy League school, marrying a rich socialite, living on the Upper East Side.

Nate Archibald is the only male character in the show involved in some way with all the 4 main female characters of the show; Serena Van Der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Jenny Humprey, Vanessa Abrams. On the surface he seems to be the perfect "Golden boy" of the Upper East Side, but throughtout the series it is visible how he tries to break that image of himself.

Nate Archibald is portrayed by actor Chace Crawford.

  2. Yeah, i agree with you... But it seems that the celebrities have a tendency to get out of this kind of problems without fullfilling the consequences...
