Picture of the Week (#5)

Last week I asked you about your fictional male character. Now it is time for the female characters! So who is your favorite female fictional character, and WHY?

My favorite is Elizabeth Bennet for Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. She is the type of woman I want to be someday. She is caring, independent and she is not afraid to tell what she thinks (well, in Pride and Prejudice she has to consider the norms of the society, but as 21st century character, she would kick ass.) She of course has her faults, pride and also prejudice, but she overcomes them through experience and eventually gets me most gorgeous man in the world, Mr. Darcy, to love and adore her. And she is happy to feel the same way about Darcy. Elizabeth Bennet is a woman of a time where people generally married for something else than love; but she is determined to stay spinster if she does not find an intelligent man she can marry for love.

  1. Great explanation as to why you love Lizzie. She really is such a great heroine.
For me, it would have to be Jane Eyre. She's plain on the outside, but incredibly rich and vibrant on the inside. She is deep, a thinker, and pretty emotional, although she tries to hide them from the public. She loves deeply, and she loves only once, I'd say. There was never anyone else but Mr Rochester.
She has her faults and naivety is definitely one of them, but she is just a great woman.

  2. Irena, I also happen to like Jane Eyre. I agree with the points you made about her. I love the female characters who have a hot hero next to them (Darcy, Rochester, Knightley etc.) :)
When it comes to 21st century novels, I would say that Bridget Jones is my favorite fictional female.

  3. Oh, yes, Bridget Jones! She is awesome! Really quirky, but in a good, fun way.;) And, she has her own Mr Darcy.:D

  4. Yeah, and she reminds me of myself, because she talks a lot and never really thinks about the consequences of her words. :D
